One of Claude Lalanne’s extraordinary chandeliers, Lustre is a lyrical example of the artist’s lifelong desire to unite art and life in a novel artistic idiom that represents a synthesis of beauty and function. The gold bronze of this unique chandelier gleams amid twenty candle holders that illuminate an enchanted scene inspired by the natural world. Wild contours of abundant branches intertwine to form a romantic labyrinth embracing two delicately rendered primates. Claude Lalanne endeavored to capture the whimsy of flora and fauna throughout her body of work and spent much of her time cultivating her own garden in Ury, France, where she lived with her husband and co-creator, François-Xavier Lalanne.
