Kazaribako (ornamented box) "Red and White Plum Blossoms" and Kazaribako (ornamented box) "Dance of Flowers," both executed circa 1995, are representative of Fujita’s merging of modern design and traditional Japanese aesthetics. Here, Fujita employs an ancient Japanese technique called “makie,” in which gold powder is applied onto a layer of lacquer. In the present works, abstracted blossoms are delicately rendered in bright colors and dramatic metallics.
