Antony Gormley began creating the Meme series in 2009. As a general term, “memes” are the genes of culture, they are thoughts, ideas or behaviors that spread from individuals through imitation or repetition. In the present series, Gormley creates miniature figural models that transform and mutate in posture, volume and composition. Each corporeal sculpture is expressed through architectural form. Gormley reconfigures cast iron cubes and blocks to engender emotional states through body language.
